Rainforests are very large they can be found close to the equator, in South East Asia, West Africa and
(赤道)
Central and South America. They have very high temperatures and it rains all year round. In a year it can rain as
much as 260 cm!
The rainforest is divided into three layers
(层)
. The canopy
(树冠)
is the top layer of the trees where most
of the animals live. These trees can be more than 30 meters high and it is the noisiest layer of the rainforest. The
middle layer is under the canopy and has some shorter trees. The third layer is the forest floor. It has very little
sunlight and is the quietest layer of the rainforest. It can take ten minutes for a falling raindrop to travel from a
rainforest’s thick canopy to the floor.
Rainforests help to protect the Earth’s climate
(气候)
because they take in CO
2
, a greenhouse gas from the air,
and give out O
2
. Many things we need such as medicines and food come from the rainforests, too.
Unluckily, these rainforests are disappearing. Every second an area the size of a football field is either cut down
for wood, to make furniture
(家具)
, to build houses or to be cleared for farming animals. Action needs to be taken
to protect the rainforests now!

What do you think the schools of the future will be like? Smart campuses(校园)have come into use all over

The University of British Columbia has created Canada's first 5G-powered smart campus. It's high-tech helps
students learn more and faster, as well as makes it easier for teachers to give their classes.
At Staffordshire University in the. UK,many students enjoy talking to Beacon and asking it questions.
Beacon is an Al chat(聊天)robot that was developed by the university. It is like a personal assistant(助手)for
students at the school. They can ask it questions, such as whether or not one of their classes is canceled.
Some universities in the world use the voice-activated(声控的)smart assistant—Alexa. It can help teachers
run their classes better. For example, Alexa can remember the teacher's classroom preferences, such as how bright
the lights should be, and change them accordingly.
Universities often have their own transportation, roads, shops and banks. They are good places to test smart

Have you ever taken PE classes with face masks(
口罩
), running, jumping, throwing? If so, that can be
dangerous and risky.
When doing exercise or sports, breathing is faster and harder than at rest. It increases(
增加
) the risk of passing
the disease on. As a result, people are considering having masks on, others may follow suit(
跟着做
), especially
during the outbreak of COVID-19.
We know that exercise leads to faster and harder breaths, a mask makes it harder to take in enough air when you
3
perform at the highest levels. At low to moderate-intensity(
中低
) exercise, effort will feel a bit harder than normal
with a mask, but you still walk comfortably. The challenge appears to be more during heavy exercise, like rugby or
football, taking in air at rates(
率
) of about 40-100 litres per minute.
When we do heavy exercise, our muscles(
肌肉
) produce lactic acid(
乳酸
), which causes the sense of burning.
It is then turned into CO
2
and stored. But what happens if the CO
2
is stopped by the mask? As you move from
moderate to heavy exercise, you may be re-breathing CO
2
. It can be bad for your health. There may also be less
oxygen in the recycled air. It could be like exercising at highland. So it is important we get a better understanding of
the limits(
限定
) of heavy exercise with masks.
