This roundtrip of 174KB data retrieved is working as designed: it would only be fired ONCE during the whole lifecycle of Opportunity application. To be more exactly, it would only be issued when the end user clicks Opportunity tile in Launchpad and opportunity detail view is clicked for the FIRST time – a one-time shot. All the subsequent clicks on Opportunity list will never trigger it again.

And once they are returned from backend, the Boolean is set to false to prevent the same data to be fetched repeatedly.

And the retrieved data is buffered in edit controller in frontend side and could be utilized by all opportunities:

Next time if you click another opportunity in navigation list, only those data dedicatedly belonging to the selected Opportunity is selected.

Compare the size difference between the first and all subsequent access: 170KB Vs 2KB

Based on current design, although end user would feel comparatively a little bit slow when the first opportunity is selected, nevertheless all the subsequent access could be quite efficiently done.
