计算机和信息技术改变了人们的生活方式，而Internet更是其中最具影响力的一个方面。Internet的诞生使信息的交流更加方便与快速，但在最初的Internet上的应用也存在一些不足。在最初Internet上的最主要的服务是邮件服务。它的不足在于它缺乏即时本文设计并实现了一个基于的。该系统。ABSTRACT

The life style of people have been changed by computer and information technology,especially by the Internet.The Internet make information exchanging more and more fast and convenient,but there were some weaknesses in the Internet at first.The major service of the Internet was the electronic mail service when it is young.The electronic mail service lacks instant exchanging of information and the same problem exist in the Web service.The most important character of instant message software is instant exchanging of information with the Internet.The appearance of Linux operating system made a great influence of computer technology.However there are not enough instant message software on Linux and some of them are weak.

This paper describe the design and implementation of instant message system on the Linux.This system have the following functions communicating with text mode,saving communication record,sending file and so on.It was developed in C language and GTK+ library,multiple threads technique and MySQL database were used.The instant message system test running platforms is Fedora Core 9.The full texts would give a detailed specification on the software development process including requirement analysis, overall design, detailed design and implementation, system testing etc.
