I'm using a KVM switch with 4 PC. Two PCs are XP and two are Win7 Professional X64 (a desktop and a laptop). The laptop display resolution changes every time I switch to another computer and back on the KVM. Scenario 7 seems to indicate the problem is because the KVM switch is generating HPD remove and arrive messages (whatever they are). So the problem seems to be with the KVM switch. you're correct that Windows 7 did work differently with the HPD (Hot-Plug-Detect) error than other OSs. In Windows 7, there is "Devices Stage" which continuously monitoring/checking all the status of connected devices (including display, USB and audio devices). So, any devices removed from the Windows 7 systems, there will be a "HPD" event triggered.

There are few KVM manufacturers provide continuously the console diisplay's DDC/EDID feeding to the connected systems all the time. Please find full-time DDC/EDID functions for avoid display's HPD, or find "USB DDM" for avoid USB keyboard and mouse's HPD when switching ports between/among a KVM switch.

I personally had tested with ConnectPRO UR+ and UD+ serial KVM switches. They all pass the tests for noting passing HPD error in both USB and Display switching.
