The process is such that an employee will request a project to be closed wherein he fills a form with information (text, drop downs, lookups, etc.). This employee needs to be able to perform a lookup in Active Directory for his manager to review his project. The field is named "manager to review" and the person can be searched and selected. That manager to review should get a request to approve the project close request. When you perform this search and select an employee to review your project, the workflow automatically approves the workflow. However, if in the workflow I remove the manager to review as a lookup and state it as a static AD user the workflow sends the approval request as intended and waits for a response.
