I'm trying to set up a streaming service want to use an RTSP stream as a source, the devices are networked cameras, and I don't have the ability to use a different format. I've read that Expression Encoder doesn't support the input of live sources, but I saw that it was possible if the stream was fed into a file which was then read by Expression Encoder. 1. You are correct, Encoder doesn't support encoding from a live stream. You could write a custom Direct Show filter that might be able to do this for you. You could also use some players to do this such as VLC.

3. That depends. If you are okay with the titles and 'things' being embedded in the video, then no you do not. You can add dynamic content via caption/subtitle files as well. It really depends on the player your clients are using and if you want them to use silverlight, flash, or whatever.
