I am trying to setup a test agent and controller for a Visual Studio 2012 update 2 environment. I have two machines, one for the agent host, the other the controller is installed. Both machines are running server 2008 R2. The installs seem to be working correctly, the services are running under a domain admin account, but when I go to connect my agent to the controller, it gets stuck on the step "Verifying that the test agent is able to connect to the test controller."

I have followed the troubleshooting guide and this didn't fix my issue. The firewall is off on both machines. I can telnet from the agent machine to the controller machine across the port being used, but the communication seems to be failing. Additionally, when I bring up the Manage Test Controllers in visual studio, the agent machine shows up in the list, but the status of it is "Disconnected".

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Thank you for your post.

Since you have upgrade VS2012 to VS2012 Update2, I suggest that you download this update and apply with test controller and test agent to check the result: www.microsoft/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=38186

If still no help, just to make the issue clearly:

When did you get stuck? When you configure test agent to register to test controller?

What error do you get on the step "Verifying that the test agent is able to connect to the test controller"? Please provide us detailed error messages so that we can further look at this issue.

Is the test agent which shows disconnected status that can’t be connected to test controller? Please check the test agent machine name. If yes, it means that this test agent can connect to test controller. In this case, I suggest that you try to restart test agent and test controller service.

If you plan to setup a test controller and test agents for remote load test run, please make sure that you configure the test controller to run load test rather than register with Team Project Collection.

If actually you get the issue when are configuring a lab environment in MTM, I am afraid that it is out of support range of VS test forum. Please post your thread on Testing with Visual Studio Test Manager (MTM) forum for better response.
