If you are a beginner, starting from a fully-fledged sample project (or any single project in general) might be not a good idea. You need to read about the concepts and understand then well. And most important thing here is the prerequisites. Too many do the big mistakes of starting Web development without proper programming background, which leads them nowhere but wastes a lot of valuable time. You need to be quite comfortable with major programming concepts and techniques (types and instances, user-defined types and their members, variables, methods, parameter passing, generics, all of the major OOP concepts and techniques), .NET platforms, CLI and the language. You need to read some manual covering these topics from the beginning to the end, as well as the language manual, in full, at least once. You need to be able to do all the basic exercises; presumably based on simple console applications. To get to the Web, you should understand very well how HTTP works and know plain HTML fairly well. The lack of such elementary knowledge is another typical mistakes of the beginners who often ask ASP.NET questions having no idea what server-side and client-side code do.
