Hi Guys,

I need to make my Application server a web server as well.

1) I need to start the web application service in the app server.

2) Install certificate to browse the site using https from the app server and edit the IIS bindings.

3) There is no farm solution installed.

4) I will start the Distributed cache in the app server ( This is not a mandatory step, I believe )

So is there anything else I need to do to make my app server a web server ?

We need to run the services below for the web server.

Access services, Access Services 2010, Business Data Connectivity service, Central Administration, Managed Metadata Service, Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Web Application, Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Subscription Settings Service, Secure Store Service, User Profile Service, Visio Graphics Service…etc.

You could follow the steps and browse the site using https.

1. Go to IIS > Click local host site > Double click the Server Certificates> Click Create Self-Signed Certificate >Specify a name for the certificate like "SelfSignedCertificate".

2. Go to the web application > Right click the web application >Choose Edit Bings> Click Add> Choose Type as https and SSL certificate as SelfSignedCertificate.

3. Go to Central Administration > Application Management>Configure alternate access mappings > Add Internal URLs >Input the https address and set the Zone as Internet.
